Demon Causeway is a challenge played in Series 4 of Raven. For the challenge played in series 10-12, see Demon Causeway (reboot).

Description[]

This challenge is quite similar to a game of chess or draughts. The three warriors and two Demons are placed on a 7x7 board which at the far end is a golden square where the warriors may escape from the challenge. The warriors start in the three other corners of the square, while the Demons start from the two black squares beside the golden one. Alternately, the warriors and Demons will move around the grid, one square at a time - the warriors' aim is to reach the golden square and escape, whereas the demons' goal is to catch the warriors.

The warriors have an advantage because they can move in any direction and the Demons can only move forwards and sideways. However, the Demons can catch the warriors very easily, so even with perfect play by all warriors, the Demons can often catch two easily.

Ring Count[]

Rings are hidden in squares throughout causeway and the golden square provides three rings for those who manage to make it there. This challenge is where the record for most rings ever collected by one warrior was set.

Trivia[]

One easy way to play this game was for one warrior to use their fellows as bait for the Demons.

The Demons have the same booming footfalls as Demon Square.

This challenge is one of the few where a successful warrior disappears after completing the challenge, along with High Walk, High Rope, Way of The Warrior and The Last Stand.

DVD gameplay[]

In the DVD game, one warrior at a time faces the challenge, against one Demon, on a 4x4 grid, with the golden square located behind the Demon's starting square. The player must use the arrow buttons on their remote to pick a space to move to, then press enter to confirm; the Demon will then move. Unlike in the show, the Demon can move backwards, which, together with this challenge being one warrior vs on Demon, rather than three warriors vs two Demons, makes it incredibly difficult, unless the player can predict the Demon's movements.

As in the show, there are gold rings under some of the squares, but if the Demon catches the player, they will lose a life and any gold they collected under the squares.
